⟶ Unser lieb gewonnenes Wiener Label Cineploit hat ebenfalls wieder zugeschlagen: Mit den neuen Vinyls von Z O L T A N und T H E L E M A huldigt man den Kultfilmen DER F R O S C H und S C A N N E R S. Während David Cronenbergs Psi-Thriller noch heute allgemeinen Kultstatus besitzt, dürfte der bizarre Biker-Horror DER F R O S C H für viele eine Entdeckung sein
– aber auch dafür ist CinePloit zweifellos gut. Z O L T A N haben hier dem britischen B-Klassiker eine in Atmosphäre und Instrumentierung getreue Hommage zuteilwerden lassen, die zwischen flirrendem Ambiente und psychedelischen Passagen pendelt. Auf der B-Seite finden sich einige Locked Grooves, also Loops spezieller Filmsamples und Sounds, die man allerdings genau treffen muss – eher ein Gimmick, während die voll be-
spielte A-Seite packend an das vorangehende Album von Z O L T A N anknüpft.

Zoltan really knock it out of the park here – offering up their own take on the amazing music that John Cameron scored for the film Psychomania – all at a level that may well have more darkness and edge than the original! There’s plenty of analogue electronics in the mix – brooding bassily over these spare, sonorous rhythms – sometimes almost hinting at a touch of funk, but often in more spacious territory overall. And although the set’s billed as a single, it’s more like a suite of tracks – extended and full of variety!

Something Not for the kids

Zoltan’sPsychomania(Exploit 04) is a great tribute to composer John Cameron. Zoltan took several themes and melodies from the brilliant, fuzzed-out Psychomania(1973) score and created a unique 13-minute suite of hypnotic soundtrack music. The format is a 12″ mini-LP with an A side of music and a B side containing several locked grooves from the movie – and it comes on a wonderful green splatter vinyl. If you’re a skull-capped petrol-head with the ability to combust spontaneously, Cineploit has again served up the perfect tonic for you. We love it!
